DRAWN CLOUDS by Marco GoiDRAWN CLOUDS by Marco Goi
Creatively identifying forms and figures in the clouds drifting above our heads has been an idyllic pastime for centuries.
Our SS22 backgrounds feature artwork from the ‘Drawn Clouds' project by the incredibly talented artist Marco Goi.
We asked him how he started this imaginative project and his interpretation of this season’s theme, ‘Remember to Play’.
-How and when was the ‘Clouds’ project born?
The project was born while I was attending the Academy (Libera Accademia di Belle Arti),I trivially took a picture of a cloud and drew on it. After a few years, I saw the picture again and decided to begin collecting them. Whenever there was a beautiful blue sky full of clouds, I would spend the afternoon with my reflex camera hunting for the most entertaining ones, and now I have a hard disk full of these photos.
-What were your favourite games as a child?
I loved spending winter afternoons playing with Lego, and if I was with friends, my favourite game to play was hide-and-seek. It required imagination, intuition, quick decision-making and implementation
-Do you still play today? If so, how?
Absolutely! The game I love to play most is to invent stories, create plots and enjoying how they are interpreted –“Let's pretend that...".
These days it has been transformed into screenplays, scenes and characters that come alive in my workas a director. Seeing a world that has never existed suddenly become real is the most beautiful game in the world. Think about how common it is for children to stage plays, assign roles to people or toys and create situations that are complicated to solve. I still play this game today but with a camera, and there are those who are even luckier, and do it in theatres. Fiction helps us solve problems that we may encounter in life; it is a form of training for what might happen to us in the future. Putting ourselves in someone else's shoes increases our empathy towards others, it helps us to grow in the most beautiful way. As well as being educational experience"Let's pretend that..." is also the most amusing game in the world.
-What does "Remember to Play" mean to you?
Seekinglightness. Experiencing a childlike amazement of seeing something for the first time. Not taking anything for granted, not even ourselves. If we don't know where to start, all we have to do is look up and discover imaginary worlds.
